Curtis is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina native to Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith who is an Australian lawyer. She was born at Yarrawonga located in Victoria, Australia. Her father was married to Ojales on the 29th of October, 1982. Jasmine, her younger sister is also an actor. From their father's perspective, they had a half-sister called Clare who passed away in 2007 from a heart disease when she was the age of four months.
